What was the delayed release date of Movie Morbius and why was it changed?

Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius in the poster for "Morbius", the film's release has been delayed to April 1, 2022.

Morbius was due to be released on Friday, January 28 but it was announced on Tuesday January 4 that the Sony movie would be delayed until later in the year.

Jared Leto's first foray into the world of superheroes saw him play the evil Spider-Man Michael Morbius, a doctor with a rare blood disease that prompts him to seek a cure, no matter the cost.

Unfortunately, his experiences lead him to transform into a bloodthirsty vampire so strong that he can't stop himself from becoming the hero of the piece.

Leto is joined in the cast by Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Tyrese Gibson, and Jared Harris, while Michael Keaton has returned as Vulture.

When was the release date of Morbius postponed?

Morbius was originally supposed to be released on July 10, 2020, then moved to July 31, before being redistributed again on March 19, 2021.

This wasn't the end of the changes to Morbius' release date as it was then pushed back to October 8, 2021, before being moved to January 28.

However, it has now been confirmed that the film will be pushed back to the new date on April 1, the Hollywood Reporter reports.

Why was the release date of Morbius delayed?

Morbius is on the move again as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the decision to change the date was made after cases of people with the Omicron variant increased.

The United States has seen a spike in the number of people infected with the virus, with more than one million new cases reported on Monday, January 3, according to data tracked by Johns Hopkins University.

It's a new world record for daily cases that, according to Bloomberg, had the highest daily number of cases outside the US prior to that on May 7, 2021, when 414,000 people were diagnosed with the delta variant in India.

That number is also nearly double the record of 590,000 daily cases in the United States on December 30, 2021.

Ahead of this new data, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's top infectious disease expert, said the US was seeing a "vertical increase" in new cases, and also confirmed that hospitalizations had risen.

While appearing on ABC this week on Sunday, he said, "We're definitely in the middle of a very sharp increase and an increase in cases. The acceleration of cases we've seen is really unprecedented, and it's gone further than anything we've seen before."
