For years only now, grumbling has linked Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to DC Comics character Black Adam. It looked as if a superhero-sized actor was unceremoniously salvaging his debut for a project featuring the character. At first, it looked as if he might bring the super powerful heroes of Shazam back to life! While the 2019 movie didn't end up including the character, reports leading up to the movie announced that Black Adam would be starring in a minor film. So, that's all we know about the movie Black Adam descending on a pike!
What is Black Adam?
The movie will serve as a spin-off and a sequel to Shazam! Centered on DC Comics villain/anti-hero Black Adam. Although the 2019 film put the pieces into play for Black Adam, plot details are currently in the works.
At DC FanDome, fans got a special behind-the-scenes look at the movie. Johnson gave fans a sneak peek at the opening scene of the film. This scene unveiled his tomb and witnessed the hero's entry into the modern world. You can watch here:

Warner Bros. also recently revealed some new looks for the Black Adam outfit.
And in case you were wondering, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson also shared more about his costume in a recent interview.
He said:
These are the best costume makers in the business, who have done all the great costumes. They are very talented. They come home. I put on. And I hate this outfit. Everything was quilted. So they immediately start shredding, cutting and ripping. When I wear this costume the second time without the padding, just cut it in such a way that it enhances the work I've done—it felt..."I'm a black Adam." ...I wanted to share not only the best form of my career, but also the form that was befitting an unstoppable super-villain that becomes an anti-hero.
Additionally, Johnson said this about the role:
There has always been something unique and different about Black Adam. He was a villain, an anti-hero, depending on your interpretation of what a villain was. I loved this idea that his pain and anger come from loss and are fueled by oppression. And at some point, he refused to pounce on him anymore. If you wronged him or wronged his family or his people, you will die. a period. It's just that simple.
Looks like we're in for a new kind of superhero photography.
Who will star in Black Adam?
Besides The Rock, the film will feature the likes of Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, aka Albert Rothstein; Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate; Aldis Hodge as Hawkman; and Quintessa Swindell as Hurricane. Sarah Shahi, who plays Adrianna Tomaz, also joins the cast. Tomaz became Black Adam's love interest in the comics. She is also an embodiment of the goddess Isis, and a heroine in her own right.
Who is behind the camera for Black Adam?
The project will be led by director Jaume Collet-Serra - best known for horror projects like House of Wax and Orphan, as well as action vehicles Liam Neeson -. Script drafts come from the likes of Adam Sztikel (Thawra Wascob) and Mauritanian screenwriters Sohrab Nochervani and Rory Haines.
When will black Adam be released?
Black Adam will arrive on July 29, 2022.
