Update: One person dies in a stabbing incident in Burnaby, Metropolis, at the Metrotown Shopping Center

A person has died after a stabbing incident on Sunday at the largest shopping center in Burnaby.


On Sunday at approximately 11:45 a.m., emergency crews to the park near Metropolis at a Metrotown Walmart responded to reports of a person stabbed.


Once on the scene, RCMP officers identified a person who had suffered life-threatening injuries outside an elevator in the park building.


Paramedics and firefighters in Burnaby carried out life-saving measures and the victim was transported to the Royal Columbian Hospital in serious condition. The victim has since died.


The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken control of the investigation.




If you are in the Metrotown area between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today, December 19, and see anything suspicious, the police are asking you to call them.

RCMP shut down Dow Street in the Metrotown neighborhood just south of the mall for a few hours and a secondary scene was inside an apartment block at 6600 Dow Street



One of the suspects is now in custody.


This is the second stabbing incident in Burnaby in a few days.


On Wednesday night, a 59-year-old man was hospitalized with stab wounds. Emergency crews were called to an apartment at 7272 Kingsway in the Edmonds neighborhood shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to an RCMP press release.



About 12 officers, including a K9 unit, Cpl. Mike Callang told NOW.


Officers located the victim and he was taken to hospital.


The 59-year-old was in a "critical condition," according to British Columbia Health Emergency Services.


Police said in a press release that a 51-year-old suspect was found and arrested.


The victim and suspect are known to each other, according to police, and an investigation is underway.
