Fatal collision on Interstate 20 in Kakona

A fatal accident involving a heavy-duty truck and SUV occurred near Exit 521 of Interstate 20, in the Kakona sector, this Thursday, December 23 at approximately 8:40 a.m. Sûreté du Québec confirms the death of the driver of the car, who was alone on the plane.

The causes of this accident are still under investigation. The car was traveling in the eastern direction and suddenly veered off its lane, at the same time as a heavy truck was coming in the opposite direction. The collision was inevitable,” explains Sergeant Claude Doiron of Sûreté du Québec. The driver of the SUV was fatally injured after being ejected. The truck driver was not seriously injured, but paramedics attended to him.

Interstate 20 is closed to traffic in order to examine the scene and understand the circumstances that led to the collision. A reconstruction worker at the scene will be on site. Since the investigation has not yet been completed, the Quebec secretariat does not rule out any hypothesis, including the hypothesis of voluntary action.

Evidence of the force of the impact, a large amount of debris scattered on the road. The two vehicles involved ended up in opposite trenches along the highway, about 400 meters apart. At this location, the east-west lanes of Autoroute 20 are contiguous. Due to the large spillage of petroleum products in this sector, Urgence-Environnement teams were immediately ordered.

The accident occurred near the Moriault Road bridge in Kakona, near Exit 521 allowing access to Route 132. By taking the access ramps to Highway 20, motorists could bypass the scene. There is no significant slowdown.
